Dancing Beyond the Dark: Reaching those with Vision Loss Through Dance
Social dancing is a gift. It can inspire confidence, create social connections, improve memory, contribute to physical fitness, and more. Watch the video to see first-hand the difference that dance can make in the lives of people with vision loss.
Most social dancers cite dance as a primary part of their life, and a large contributor to their social circle. These people come from a huge variety of backgrounds. Some may have started as teenagers, but most started in their 20’s, 30’s or beyond. This diversity is testament to the fact that anyone can learn to dance – including the blind.
dZouk Productions has partnered with the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) to bring the gift of dance to those living with full or partial vision loss. The first five blind or partially sighted Zouk dancers have been training since January. They are preparing to perform in May at the Vision Gala.
